Aspertame generates methanol in the intestinal tract. related to eye problems causes brain tumors in rats. The original two tests on Aspertame proven that it was cancer causing these tests have never been refuted. The FDA then refused approval some how the product a few years later got approved :-) there has been a tramatic rise in humans having brain tumors since it was introducted. It also maybe suspect in brain seizures.

Steve, I am somewhat familiar with the damage that can be done by aspartame (NutraSweet) ingestion, especially the long-term potential hazards. I have extensive information about aspartame (among other things) on my homepage that you can download. (Email me if you don’t have web access.) Aspartame has had much more scrutiny in the US than in Europe. However, most of the scrutiny in the US came before it had been used for a significant length of time by the general population. Now that reports of health problems are pouring in, it is long overdue for a much closer look by truely independent investigators. Europeans do not get accurate information about aspartame because there has been *relatively* little scrutiny and they are fed Monsanto/NutraSweet PR. I would probably bet that most of the European health agencies were not told that aspartame caused brain cancer in lab animals and seizures in primate experiments during the pre-approval studies.
