Question:

does lifting bushels of peanuts count as weight lifting .. those suckers get heavy the more you lift them … and hubby says he loves me just the way I am ….

Response:

Beware you don’t overdo it.  Weightlifting resulted in a flare-up  for me this summer that I am only now getting over. Yesterday,  I just worked out for the first time  since June.   This time around I am going to be sure to go at it very easily, and not stress myself. Prior to the flare up, I had been using heavy weights, trying to bulk up, doing only 2 – 3 reps to the point of failure.  As experienced weightlifters know,   this is the best way to build muscle quickly, however it is also a good for an IBD sufferer to bring on a flare.   I  have now changed my technique, and am working with much lighter weights, and doing 8 – 12 reps. Just my 2 cents, Tom

I was going to give weightlifting a try, but they’re so heavy! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Why don’t all of you who complain about loosing weight start working out with > weights.  I have been lifting for 8 or 9 years and was just diagnosed with CD > in April.  I am on Pentasa, and have not lost weight or had any real problems. > I believe it is because of excersise.  Give it a shot.

Response:

I prefer not to lift weights to gain weight cause I prefer to keep the feminine look that my husband seems to prefer , plus I get enough of a workout just at work, and lifting weights will screw up your back if your not careful and I have enough troubles as it is … but thats my opinion !

Response:

Doing weight baring exercise is great for cardiovascular. it doesn’t necessarily mean you will get big arms :) you can still keep the feminine look and still do wonders for your health. But like anything it has to be done properly. You can make a weak back strong again.I used it to remedy my back problems. There is absolutelly nothin negative about doing weight baring exercises properly….it is all positive. And i’m sure hubby will not mind a toned body  :)

Why don’t all of you who complain about loosing weight start working out with weights.  I have been lifting for 8 or 9 years and was just diagnosed with CD in April.  I am on Pentasa, and have not lost weight or had any real problems. I believe it is because of excersise.  Give it a shot.

Response:

ignore my spelling mistakes.

Response:

Yep, I have been working with weights for 20 years, on & off, to maintain fitness and strength.  Nothing too heavy, just enough to offer resistance, and tighten muscle.  I have found that it has many benefits.  Keeps you fit and strong, overall.  The strength shows up in many ways – preventing accidents (a fall off a bike didn’t hurt me), housework (can wash windows with more arm strength), and things like carrying grocery bags.  Also, it supposedly helps to prevent osteoporosis in women. Of course, you can hurt yourself if you don’t start out properly, so see an expert for advice, and start slow! Sylvi
