Yes, I can confirm everything Heidi says about me is true, I did indeed reply to the posts she mentions. Whether or not posts get replies depends on whether they happen to pique the interest of the people who read the newsgroup that day. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve posted here, but I know that some of my posts have kicked off long threads, and others have received little or no response. Either way, I don’t take it personally. Love, Kate.

OH MY GOD! A REPLY AND I’VE RECIEVED IT AND CAN READ IT TOO! Hey, please no-one take this the wrong way – I was shouting for joy! (And, yes Kate, I’ve seen yours too). Odd, isn’t it, that I can now? To answer your question, I’ve never had, seen or been offered an aftercare sheet anytime from anywhere… …for any of my healed and healthy piercings… …or for that matter for the surgery I had to have done once. Or for having teeth pulled. Thanks for your concern anyway. Keep well, howard — *theabovemessagedoesnotnecessaril managAr parChonmorliez? Having said this, I haven’t had any work done since I’ve been on the ‘Net so it’s not something I’ve ever thought about before. I can’t say they WEREN’T there, just that I’ve never seen one… I’m pretty sure I’d be able to look after a new piercing these days, provided I could reach it to clean it. With or without written documentation. So, what’s the general feeling on aftercare sheets? I mean out here on the ‘Net? I understand they are accepted practice in other countries, but what do folks think to them? One reaction I have to them is that there’s scope for them to end up like the cliche bookshelf full of pristine volumes – ie, unread! And I guess there’s scope for stuff like inadvertent washing with the laundry. But, then again, doesn’t simply having them and distributing them imply an ongoing "information contract"? But so do good verbal instructions. And are you more likely to pay attention and listen if you HAVE to remember it? I know from my own experience it’s possible to misread information and mistakenly apply it… …but why should either those of us with poor memories (particularly in the first thrills of getting new work!) or who ain’t so good at reading be less able to care for ourselves? I don’t know. Anyone want to take this up? howard — *theabovemessagedoesnotnecessaril managAr parChonmorliez? Uh, yes, would be the answer to your question. You delurked in April, and Kate sent you info about the Sheffield munch. I probably welcomed you (since I change the subject line, it never shows up in the same dejanews thread). Larisa answered your question about the pianist. No one said anything about your strange bit about the gaping head wound (I didn’t understand it myself…). Mo replied to something about anaesthesia. A mini thread followed your post about the "gay" ear, and Kate posted to that thread that your email wasn’t working. You’ve posted 11 times including your delurk, and at least half the time someone replied. So, you may now stop being paranoid. > Oops, pardon me! I meant to make a short post from along these lines: > "How do I keep a fresh piercing clean? I’m completely ignorant…" > Anticipated replies: > 10 giving me their method > 7 welcoming me aboard > 1 saying "Read the FAQ"
consider this the RTF post and go to http://www.faqs.org/faqs/bodyart where you’ll find plenty of information on cleaning fresh piercings. heidi(*) — Boycott Starbucks! i’m not sure, and not possessing Shawn’s sophisticated detectors, but i found this rant to be quite humorous.. i really hope you meant it as such. This might be the problem.. its hard to tell on the net, if someone is a little left of center (most of us are some point between left and center.. we don’t get many conservatives here,) or being sarcastic… Generally, when unsure, most net folks will wait for clues, so that feelings are spared.. twouldn’t be funny to laugh if someone meant it to be serious or visa-versa. That head thing you wrote was…ummmm… different. Sort of like an Eschar sketch.. or other surreal work. Anyway.. i certainly couldn’t think of a reply <shrug> i’m glad Christine did…though in some strange way, that scares me. <snipping, just because it’s long is all> As for the embedded questions: >Exempla gratis of my thinking:- How feasible would it be to put a >moulded plastic insert under one of my tattoos to give it relief/texture >via "plastic surgery"? And could I get this done by a tattooist/piercer >instead of having to go to a "surgeon"?
i don’t have a clue.. this has been discussed here recently though.. was that you? >Another exempla gratis:- If you know what you’re doing and have the >right tools (and an autoclave of course!) you can make a piercing needle >for peanuts! Even a threaded one for doing LaBrets! Maybe I’ll compile >details and put them on a website. And, no, no-one ever told me that…
i wasn’t aware that peanuts had lips.. or are you discussing those adorably fellows in the Charles Schmaltz’ cartoon? 2 dimensional piercing have proven to be quite difficult though.. the BB always tear the paper
i think its a design flaw. >Oops, pardon me! I meant to make a short post from along these lines: >"How do I keep a fresh piercing clean? I’m completely ignorant…" >Anticipated replies: >10 giving me their method >7 welcoming me aboard >1 saying "Read the FAQ"
i know this is a joke, though i think you have too many welcomes and too few FAQs. Please adjust your data
Anyway, hang in there howard, and for what its worth.. you gave my warped sense of humor a workout! mouse (*) <—-new tail; shaken, not stirred.

Hi, BTW I’m cross-posting this to RAB… …and it’s long and (I hope) worth reading so, if you have a printer… I have to check all angles; has anyone replied to any of my posts on RAB? Ever? No need to go searching, I’m sure I can take your word on it. I’m just wondering whether: * there’s some glitch in the news system which means I don’t get to see replies (in which case I need to contact my techsupport people) * I’m not posting right still (in which case I need to contact Nutscrape) * I’ve done something badly wrong since I’ve been on the ‘Net * I’m being viewed with suspicion just because I don’t have a "homepage" (stuff that for a lark – I don’t want to say any more about myself until I’ve achieved more and got more together) * I’m irrelevant, inconsequential and way off-topic * there’s something going down I’m aware of but have been assured is simply "paranoia" – in which case I’m am actively trying to set things right (and yes, I know that does sound "mad") * I’m just unlucky * the Internet is not what it used to be and is now over-populated by ignorant, unfriendly, tossers who insist on me fulfilling some criteria I have no real idea of before they’ll talk to me * I AM just a jumped-up paranoid with some kind of world-view problem who is posting crap (even tho’ it makes sense to me). In which case will someone please put me straight on what is relevant? * My computer isn’t "good enough" to warrant being taken seriously (well, it’s an option – but really, if a faster clock or an unfinished unstable Operating System make the difference then, well, I’m not convinced I want to talk to ya anyway – I use the facilities I have, if you want to buy me new machine that’s acceptable to you I’ll give it to someone who needs it more than me without even touching it…) I really don’t want to go pointing any fingers at anyone. I’m desperately trying not to (and PLEASE don’t let this go any further but a flame would be encouraging, nay, welcome!) …so, come on, flame me then… …I can ignore people too. I don’t post under any other names, or from any other addresses. Even if I do get a college account again at some point in the future I’m still likely to do my email & posting from a private account. I’m not trying to sell anything or SPAM or annoy people or anything at all. I’m just kind of wondering why everyone else appears to be in conversation and whatever I post gets completely ignored… And, no, I’m not likely to go away or stop posting – although if you’re happy to join in with everyone else please feel free not to reply at all. Anyway, your emails seem to get thru OK, as do those of the people I know from prior to going online. Your replies make sense (and so do other people’s too) and that leads me to believe that so do mine. I know I’ve worried you once (or if it’s more, please let me know) and I’ve tried to at least apologise for that. What else I can do just at the moment I know not… I’m NOT saying "please tell me I’m not mad". I am saying is this whole delurking thing kind of a "well, you’re my friend so I’ll welcome you – oh, I don’t know you so you know what you can do" type setup? I’m really worried at the cynicism I’m developing here. Particularly as I’m here (on the ‘Net) to both learn from others and contribute what and where I can. I don’t want to learn the trade secrets. Full Stop. Period. Exclamation! I don’t want to "make money" – the ‘Net just isn’t about that (well, not to me anyway). I wouldn’t mind a conversation (tho’ with several people at once as well as via email) – I don’t mind contributing my ideas (up to a point) is it really too much to expect the same from other people? I come at life from a point of view that I haven’t met many truly stupid people, anywhere, ever – except me. If people want me to think they’re stupid, fine. I just don’t particularly want to be thinking that! I’m sorry to keep harping on about this – I suppose it’s just important to me to try and sort things out… …I came to RAB before once a few years ago. It just wasn’t where I was at at the time (not enough about tattooing and, I suppose, because I was reading from a college account and didn’t want them to think badly of me – oh naive innocent that I was then!) I’ve since thought a lot about it all and now I read it from a more "sensible" perspective – out of the genuine interest I’ve always had but with a more open and accepting worldview. I know I may have made mistakes – we all do (surely) – but I have tried (and am trying) not to. I’ve also seen a TV programme or two about bodyart since then (as well as read stuff and talked to people) and am seriously interested in exploring the whole subject – purely for interest. Exempla gratis of my thinking:- How feasible would it be to put a moulded plastic insert under one of my tattoos to give it relief/texture via "plastic surgery"? And could I get this done by a tattooist/piercer instead of having to go to a "surgeon"? I just thought maybe there’d be people on RAB (rec.arts.bodyART) who might share might point of view – or differ – that I could talk to. Ovbiously not! Soz if I think there’s a bit more to it than tattooing & piercing (although they are the perspectives I’ve always approached it from). Another exempla gratis:- If you know what you’re doing and have the right tools (and an autoclave of course!) you can make a piercing needle for peanuts! Even a threaded one for doing LaBrets! Maybe I’ll compile details and put them on a website. And, no, no-one ever told me that… Same as prison tat guns are made for peanuts (now I DID read that somewhere…) Haven’t quite worked out how just yet, but I may if I can be bothered. Anyway, back to the stony silence that seems to greet me… So far there’s you who talks to me. And whilst I have no complaints at all about you (quite the opposite), I wouldn’t mind other people’s input too! Particularly as you don’t try to define art if I remember right! Yeah, I’ve been paranoid – wondering if you’re some kind of trap or a bunch of adolescent pratts having a laugh – that’s email. So far I’m taking it all on trust. I’ve at least been honest about it. Anyway, any help or insight you might be able to give me is much appreciated. I’m not studying for any papers, or getting any info for any other reason – and I notice that those who do come to the group to compile papers seem reticent in putting them up on the web or available for ftp or even posting excerpts to RAB. Maybe it’s just a false impression I’ve formed since I’ve been here and people do (shhh quietly, via email). I really don’t care who is or isn’t lurking – concerned parents or religious leaders, megastars or misfits, Lord Snooty or Aunt Aggie. I really couldn’t give a monkeys – I’m just looking for a conversation. And how do you get one of those without talking to people (unless, of course, they talk to you first)? And, as this is going out on public media my last post (stitching as bodyart) was the result of NOT being treated for a headwound at hospital myself a couple of years ago (and, yes, I was already "mad" at the time) and the end result is that the scar is hardly noticeable. I just had a strange dream where I was in the position of making that decision for someone else – and I was simply looking for input on what I should do if that event ever arose! As ever, please feel free to reply. Anyway, thanks in advance… Oops, pardon me! I meant to make a short post from along these lines: "How do I keep a fresh piercing clean?
