Question:
And family walks are good times for casual (and not-so-casual) chit-chat and keeping up with what everybody’s doing & thinking. You’re not making a point of "let’s talk", but it just seems to happen. bj
> hey, Angie… get those kids used to exercising every day….. try
an evening walk after dinner every night….. you’ll pass on healthy habits to them that way – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> —
Response:
Angie, I do about 25 minutes of work each day (except wednesday and sunday) with dumbells. Mostly upper body, but I warm up with crunches and aerobic leg exercises. I started with minimal weight 9 months ago, and worked up. Then I try to sneak in about 25 minutes of jogging each evening. But I started by walking, and worked up to running over time. So, with a little less than one hour per day, five days per week, I have put all my blood lipids into the normal category, gotten my blood pressure under control, and I am now controlling the bg levels with diet and exercise alone. For those who can do it, exercise is a critical component of managing dm, in my opinion. How do you find the time? Most people spend at least that much time in front of the television each day. But even if they dont, the issue is one of overall health and the benefits derived from the activity. If you don’t find the time to do it now, the consequences may be very severe later. start with a slow walk around the block…. build that up to 2 walks around the block, then 3…. then go off for a walk around the neighbourhood…… walking is an excellent exercise…… and you can increase the pace as you — k t1 14 yr – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >good idea…"Santa is bringing them both softball and baseball bats, gloves >and balls for Christmas. Yep, know what you mean! I was getting kind of fond of all the dog hair around here.. (4 dogs).
