Exercise R Us » Exercise Training » Intermediate training book, any suggestions?

Question:

I have a 1 1/2 year old Weimaraner that has completed basic obedience training and done very well.  I would like to enroll her in a more advanced course, but I simply don’t have the time right now (her class schedule would conflict with mine). I’ve been looking for a book that covers intermediate training (e.g., heel off lead, out of sight sit and lay/stays) but cann’t seem to find anything worthwhile.  Most books at local bookstores either cover stuff she already knows or they are geared toward specialized training (e.g., hunting, guarding). Does anyone have any suggestions?  Please post or reply via email to Thanks in advance, Joe Hartleb & Gretchen the Wonder Weim

Response:

Jack and Wendy Vollhard’s Open and Utility Training (covers out-of-sight stays, off-lead heeling as a review exercise, plus much else.) A systematic, thorough, sensible book IMO. Patricia Burnham’s Playtraining Your Dog (wittily written, covers all AKC exercises, but isn’t as thorough as Vollhard). Diane Baumann’s Beyond Basic Dog Training. Katharine Maus
