Question:
Are you having surgery to correct it? If you are, you’re looking at a few weeks of not lifting over 15 lbs till your abdominal wall heals (I’m assuming it’s that kind of hernia), and not being able (or allowed) to go up and down steps for at least a week. Of course, if your body was already "tight" before, you may have a shorter recovery period. Wait till tomorrow, and ask the doc. :) jn – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >I am going to find out tommorrow if I have a hernia but 99% chance I >do……Has anyone had experience in having one of these and how long it >took to recover? I had a hernia back when I was 17 (weird) and I was told to not do anything strenuous for 4 weeks, but I felt strong enough to go skiing on opening day three weeks later. Initailly you feel like a slug because you HURT like hell and the drugs they put you on (I had perkocete <sp?>) makes your brain do loopy things when you move. Hernia’s are pretty easy to fix, depends on how severe they are though. If you are strong going in, your recovery time whould be less, as this was the only way I was able to ski 3 weeks later. Take it easy and do very little the first week or two, then slowly build up, and if you are really concerned with your conditioning, talk to a physical therapist about a program of exercise to do while you are recovering. Very light exercise should be fine to do. It took me about 6 weeks in total to get back to my pre-surgery conditioning, but I didn’t "degenerarate" that much either. Don’t worry too much about it, but talk to your doctor and a PT about recovery time exercise. As a bonus, you’ll get a really cool scar.
And, as I was told, a new pick up line, "Hey baby, wanna see my scar?" Bryan =)

Does anyone know about hernias? I’m just wondering if there are varying degrees, and if so, is it possible for it to heal without surgery. Thanks TJ
Response:
Yes, there are varying degrees and types of hernias. I recenty had an inguinal hernia repaired through surgery. They will not fix themselves. Check out www.hernia.org to find all kinds of information. > Does anyone know about hernias?
