Question:
> >Does anyone have experience with Scottish Deerhound >or Borzoi breeds? I would be very interested
I breed Borzoi and have been involved with the breed in one way or another for over 20 years. my kennel name is Silkenswift and we are the top breeder of lure coursing sighthounds. we are expecting a litter this spring and I have a few adolescents available. I also am active in rescue and re-union of lost Borzoi and their owners. Yes, I have two wonderful Borzoi bitches that are just over two years old. I am new to the breed, but the breed club in the Denver area is good and offers a good measure of advice. I hike and bike with both of my girls. I am careful about where I let them off lead – MUST be far from a road with some natural or manmade enclosure. I also bike with them; so far it has been on lead using an attachment to my mountain bike called a Springer. I also course one of my girls and through that I have met a lady who has Scottish Deerhounds. I will be happy to try and obtain her name and number for you, perhaps she can direct you further. As far as Borzoi breeders go, I have two that I would recommend, both have been in the breed for 25 years and appear to be well known and, in my estimation, reputable. The breeder I got my girls from is Sue Blanchard – Cresset Borzoi – 303-426-8360 or Nadine Johnson – Rising Star Borzoi (will provide number tomorrow). Hope this helps Teresa Nealon, Kira and Solo

I’m owned by two wonderful Scottish Deerhounds – McEwan and Meggie. There are also a couple of other deerhounders on the net, one of whom (Ellen Bonacarti) is a breeder. If you tell me where you are located I can put you in touch with the nearest breed referral person. As to information about the breed, I can only concur with the two books on choosing dogs. Daniel Tortura wrote one and I can’t remember the other. Active outside and lazy inside (except when they want to play at being dinosaurs for a while.) Wonderful personalities, love people. Elegant and sophisticated. I take the older dog mountain biking, and am hoping to do more hiking and biking with both. We lure course which is lots of fun. They love exercise and are now both running for the joy of it. Good luck choosing (I think Borzois are pretty neat too) Mike

Does anyone have experience with Scottish Deerhound or Borzoi breeds? I would be very interested in what information can be offered as I am considering either of them as a walking/bicycling companion. Also, names and addresses of reputable U.S. breeders would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Mitch
