Exercise R Us » Biking » opinion on goggles for contacts…

Question:

I too wear soft contacts after many years of fogging up behide my glasses! I ride to work each day down a 4 to 5 kilometer hill where I reach speeds of up to 87 kmph and regularly average 70 k. Apart from some blurring on super windy days no losses have occurred. I wear Oakley M frame sweeps and they do the trick.  They must be good cos my wife steals them when she can so that her eyes don’t water when she rides to work! Cheers

I use the Bolle microedge and they work great. I’ve had the microedge II and they are also good. You can also get a lens to fit into the better name frame(Bolle, Oakley, etc.) which has your prescription in it. It’s a little annoying that way though. I generally ride about 60km/hour for a 15 minute stretch of road, and have had no problems with the Bolle. C.

Does anyone know of any glasses that really block the wind from the eyes?                                                         -Kam (^88 | "My every path is strewn with cowpats from the | Kam Bansal          | | Member of DNRC –                                                     | | Grand Poobah of the saying "Yes Mr. Ploppy, it is a Watermelon"      |

I shudder to think of how many lenses I’ve lost that way, both biking and skiing.  I think it’s just luck, the particular glasses, and the shape of your own face.  I’ve used $100 specialty biking eyewear that was as useless as no glasses at all.  I now use some cheapie B&L "I’s" wayfarer types that work perfectly at the highest speeds.  The original Vuarnet Cateye style has always worked well for me skiing or biking, keeping the wind out of my eyes, but most people would consider them too out of style these days.  I don’t care, I don’t have a goatee either, but I don’t like to wear real glass for biking. I say experiment until you find something that works.  You’re no more likely to have success with those $100 molded plastic wonders of marketing, than a pair of checkout stand specials.  That’s at least as far as wind protection goes, anyway.
