Question:
> I’m also looking to identify and mark little off-road paths across > vacant lots or miscellaneous blank urban landscape that are fun little > bypasses for mtn bikers. > The trail would ber marked with a little sign with includes imba’s > offrode code to educate people to be better trail users. > Anyone got any ideas about this?
Not to be a naysayer, but: – The signs will probably last about a month, tops. Nothing more exciting to do on a Friday night than go out and vandalize some signs
– Who owns this land? The biking is probably pretty cool until the land owner finds out you’re inviting users onto his property. And hey, if that sign’s there, doesn’t that mean I can sue him if I hurt myself? (answer, probably not, but try convincing the land owner that). So anyways: Great idea, but probably won’t work. Spend your time just fixing up whatever trails you can, and bag the sign idea. Jon Sundquist

I knew some lawyer-fearing or landowner person would post! (Nothing personal) It won’t be me they sue. I personally think that if someone leave urban land fallow, then we can use it as a recreational resource. Yeah, it’s a idea which will have land owners seeing red, so then maybe they will call the parks department and apply pressure to get some real off-road trails ontl the urban landscape. until then we are outlaws, and it just adds to the thrill, doncha think? ;) And no, I don’t mean riding on CLOSED trails. To reiterate, we need urban offroad trails. We need to educate the riding public (we really need this!) so I propose to install a little imba sign beside any vacant lot with a dirt trail across it, in the hope the masses get some sensible riding info into their noggins. I know some people will just gnaw on the sign, but if one or two folks get smarter about sharing the trail, hey, it was worth it. My message is "Ride responsibly, or we won’t be able to ride at all" which is what happened in Montreal. (heck the head of the parks department even closed the Velodrome!) d williams montreal
