Question:
: The Rock Shock Quad 21R is a great shock in the 300.00 to 400.00 : range. : Paul I think he meant the $200-300 range. I just got my Q21R for $224.99. I still haven’t rode on it yet because of the pleasant weather conditions over here in Maryland. When I was installing it, I found out that the guys at Rock Shox forgot to thread one of the brake bosses. I was a little disappointed being a RS loyalist. — Jason Liu, College Park, Md. |GO SKINS! In the last Bike Nashbar catalog I recieved, they were selling off their inventor of the Specialized future shock for approx $149. Basically it’s about the same as the RS Mag21 at quite a discount. However, they did only have a limited range of steerer tube lengths and diameters. Aha! My question is similar… I’ve seen the Quadra21 for $230 and the Judy XC for $299 (mail order). Not a huge difference, and is the Judy worth the extra $60? Thanks, Peter

Pete: Rock Shox Quadra 21R. It has the same elastomers, legs and brace as the Judy XC, 2 1/2 inches of travel and costs between $225-250. Quite the bargain. Check the new Manitou Mach series forks, too. They have a crown molded to the legs for outstanding rigidity and are supposed to be a good deal. Prices are comparable to Rock Shox. You can’t go wrong with either of these. Good riding! Paul Kelly
