Question:

Hi, I was wondering whether anybody could help me with a few questions. I bought a new GT last week, even though I have been mountain biking for over 5 years now, I have never owned a "branded" bike. I want to know how good the following parts are – PLEASE tell me if you know, and any other info to with it. Please E-Mail me. 1) i) Shimano Alivo rapid-fire shifters/brake (with display)    ii)Somebody mentioned "LX" to me, what is this and how do my gears       compare? 2) Shimano Acera-X rear & front derailleur, cranks and chainrings? 3) Shimano Altus Cantilever Brakes (it says SLR on the other brake arm) 4) Anybody heard of "Kenda" tyres? 5) An Uno 7000 alloy seatpost. 6) "Wellgo" LU-946 pedals (snicked off a Wheeler) with toeclips. 7) Even though I haven’t taken the cranks off I can see the bottom    bracket says: "Sealed Cartridge Bottom Bracket", huh? 8) There is a decal on the frame which says "GT CUSTOM – 4130" "Cro-Mo    main tubes". OK, cro-mo is the steel and the other stuff? This bike isn’t a bike to be worth a fortune, neither did I intend it to be a mass produced piece of rubbish. PLEASE even if you only have information on one of these questions E-Mail me. I am trying to see if what I bought was only salesman talk or a worthwhile bike. Simon Deiner PS. Does Shimano have a web site?

Response:

Hey, what do you guys think of the new INDY forks? How would you compare them to say Judy XC’s and Manitou Mach 5’s with almost the same components?                                                 -Matthew Seech
