My local postman has a GT Team RTS, yellow Judy SL’s, lights, bike alarm, street tyres, kickstand and if it wasn’t for the fact it’s a full suspension bike he’d have a rack and mudguards too. He actually asked for these to be put on but the BSG said he couldn’t fit them. Sacrilige I know but hey it’s his money. He doesn’t do the post round on it though, still uses the red and white post-person special. —

The show’s concept sounds cheezy, but USA network is doing it, so you never know, they’re polishing their act up a bit. The one thing that’ll make it worth checking out is the fact that Hans Rey does the stuntwork, and he’s been up there working a hell of a lot, so despite the prostitution of our sport by Hollywood, Hans always puts on a killer show.

I saw the bikes they used. They were dual-suspension equipped Schwinn Homegrowns with Spinergy Rev-X wheels. Pretty fat ride. BUt on a side not I ride in the city every day and see bike cops all the time, and the thing I realized is that they don’t have any skills, they ride slow, they can not bunny hop, or do pretty much anything else. All they really do is coast and cruise around, the only really good city bikers are the bike messengers you see that can hope over the trash cans do the really technical stuff. At the bikeshop I work at we put together the Trek Y-22s for the Washington, DC Secret Service to patrol the area around the white house. Now, the Trek Y-22 is a fine bike, but the White House Fuz puts on these really shit hybrid tires and get this, a *kick*stand*. I have never seen a kick-stand on a dual-suspension bike before, what a waste, but then again Trek gives them the bikes for free, so the government is not really wasting any money on something people do not really need. — GOOD KARMA DaZe

Yea, I know what you mean about making you sick….what with all that spandex or lycra or maybe those string suits on tan, hard bods. That would be expending a lot of energy that could be used to ride. They should’nt allow that on tv. Man, if my wife caught me watching that she would be concerned about my mid life crisis. Ride on dude, Marshall

: I was watching Entertainment Tonight last night and there was : a litte segment on a new show, i forget the exact name, blue something : maybe, anyway ET said that it was a lot like BayWatch on bikes. : I don’t mind telling you it made me sick…… Anyways it is supposed : to take place on… you guessed it a California beach. A Bike beach : patrol of sorts i guess. On a positive note they showed some of the : "stunts" that were to take place and they did look interesting. : Although this is probably not the best public relations for : the sport. : Anyone else catch it? Comments? : Eric Zimmerman – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->I think it is called "Pacific Blue"

Didn’t catch but Hans Rey said he is one of the stunt guys among others. And hey may have a small part. Former US Trials champion "Big Mac" Jeff Lenosky(Schwinn Racing) just returned from California where he was doing a Trials demo/Stunt show for the new show (I cant recall the name.) Might not be your’e kind of TV,nor mine, but it certainly could’nt hurt the sport. And it gives my Trialsin’ brothers some side work. The stunts were, and are, being performed by, you guessed it, Hans "No Way" Rey. I’ve talked to him about the show, and he say’s it should be filled with action. — Mike Rosekrans South Coast Single Tracks (Orange County Mountain Biking News and Views) For more info about how you can get a hold of this informative newsletter, please e-mail your residence address and we’ll snail some info to you. Comments? I saw the same thing on ET. There were some nicely equipped bikes on there. ET obviously didn’t show much of the bikes but I caught a glimpse of a GT frame and a bike equiped with Spinergy wheels. The thing that guy did on the Mustang (hops on the car) were pretty cool. I wish I had cable since the show is only going to be on the USA network. — Jason Liu, College Park, Md. |GO SKINS! (‘72 NFC/’82 XVII/’83 NFC/’87 XXII/’91 XXVI) -Heath!- | |GO HALOS! Comments? Yes, I saw that. It raised another question for me. I would like to see more of what other riders can do. I usually ride alone, so I don’t have a lot of ‘role’ models, nor have I had the opportunity to attend any local competitions. My level of riding ability is currently ‘newbie’ but I’d like to improve. I get a lot from just getting out and pounding the pedals, (and following this group) but I think I could also learn from good videos, parhaps even watching BikeWatch. Can anyone recommend good videos to watch for picking up pointers on technique?? thanks, hank — Hank Barta White Oak Software Inc. Beautiful Sunny Winfield, Illinois
