I haven’t had a power antenna in a few years (but will once again have one when I pick up my 95 GS-R this week).   Does the antenna retract with low of power or is it triggered to retract?  I had planned on putting in a switch along the antenna line to disable it (ie. prevent it from rising until I flip a switch) when I’m not using the radio (I mostly listen to CD, so why bother having the antenna up creating extra drag and making the car look asymmetrical :) Bruno

It retracts when power is cut on a control line. > I had planned on putting in a switch along the antenna line to disable it > (ie. prevent it from rising until I flip a switch) when I’m not using the > radio (I mostly listen to CD, …

I’ve done exactly that.  I mostly listen to tapes, and I didn’t want the wear-and-tear on the antenna when I don’t even need it up.  When the radio is on, I can sent the antenna up/down by using my added switch. —                                                 Brett Carver                                                 (707) 577-4344

My new to me ‘93 Integra suffered from this problem for about 3 days this past winter. This is the 3rd winter for the car out here in the North Atlantic. Luckily it righted itself and there has been no evidence of a problem since. (This may have been not so lucky as I may have gotten a new antenna if it had continued?). My beef is that there is no manual override for the antenna. My ‘88 Integra Ls has pop-up headlights which I can leave up when there is freezing rain or if I am going to make several stops on winter nights. The car will soon be 8 years old (Aug. 1) and it has 282,500 km on it (175,000 miles)K. The headlights still work perfectly ( no lazy eyes). Why didn’t some car designer genius think of a switch for my antenna? Does anyone know of a quality kit I may be able to buy to override this antenna irritant on the ‘93? Oh while I’m at it, does anyone know where I can get some yellow adhesive film to go over those damn foglights? Craig Young 1988 Integra LS 1993 Integra LS

Mine did it.  I’m more suspicious that it got too dirty.  It fixed itself before  I managed to get it in to the shop. — Senior Software Engineer — DM2 Solutions            (614) 529 – 1969 Cool Job: Guitar Teacher — Columbus Music Center    (614) 846 – 7744 Healthy Job: Aerobics Instructor –Continental Athletic (614)846-8400                                     Victory Fitness  (614) 351 – 1688

My dad’s 92 Vigor GS has done that since its very first winter – and no lube or de-icer treatment seems to ever help much! -Barry

Take your warranty service to another dealer.  You don’t have to go to the one where you bought your car, and another dealer may be eager to fix your problem in exchange for possibly getting all your future business. >Is there anyone out there that can help me! >It just cost me just under $100.00 for this repair!!!

Oops, too late.  If you already paid the bill, you’re probably stuck with it.  But tell the dealer that you’re going elsewhere from now on and he has one chance to keep your business.  Climb the managerial ladder until you reach somebody who can say "yes."  (Assuming you have another place to go in your area; might not want to give an ultimatum you can’t keep.) >P.S. My ‘94 GS-R’s antenna sticks when it’s cold.  And the cup holder sticks too.  My two biggest complaints.  (Besides the fact that it looks dirty ten minutes after I wash it.  Never buy a black car.)

I recently had the WORST experience of my life with any car dealer! He accussed me of damaging the power telescoping antenna on my 1995 Acura, stateing that the damage was caused by a bend in the lower section of the antenna. Since the car is under one year old and in NJ we just had a hell of a winter, they refused to fix the antenna under warranty also stateing that they are not responsible for the "elements". Is there anyone out there that can help me! It just cost me just under $100.00 for this repair!!! I post because for a company (Acura) to be soooo concerned with my total satisfaction right after the sale they seem to not give a rat’s ass about my satisfaction down the road! Thanks, Edd P.S. I have seen a few ‘95 Acura’s with the same antenna problems (not fully retracting), I’d be curious about how big a problem this is!!
